ABOUT AKHUWAT's

Shifting from a historical and philosophical perspective to a practical solution for poverty alleviation, Akhuwat was founded by Dr. Amjad Saqib in 2001. Before establishing Akhuwat, he served in Pakistan’s Civil Services under the District Management Group (DMG) and later as the General Manager of the Punjab Rural Support Program (PRSP).

His firsthand experience with poverty deeply moved him, leading to his commitment to support the underprivileged. During a visit to Jia Bagga village with friends, including Dr. Kamran Shams, he spoke with a local woman to understand the impact of a PKR 10,000 loan she had received from PRSP. This interaction further inspired him to develop a sustainable, interest-free loan system, which later became the foundation of Akhuwat’s mission.

Philosophy – Mawakhat

The concept of Mawakhat dates back to 622 CE, when Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) encouraged the Ansars of Medina to share half of their possessions with the Muhajirs, who had fled persecution by the Quraish and sought refuge in Medina. This act of selflessness and solidarity laid the foundation for a compassionate and inclusive society.

Inspired by this spirit of generosity, Akhuwat envisions a world free from inequality by promoting a similar approach—where a financially stable family supports a less fortunate one. This model fosters economic balance, social harmony, and collective prosperity, ensuring that no individual is left behind in the pursuit of a dignified life.
